• Are You Okay, California? Left Coast Check-Up

Sure, New York is a challenging place to live. We have to put up with a lot of hassles, but at least the inconveniences are familiar. We don't have to contend with mudslides, forest fires, bears in the backyard, and frequent earthquakes. We leave that stuff to our weird brethren in California. Let's see how they're doing in a series of stories from the past few days.

Paying A Child For Sex? Careful, You Might Get Two Days In Jail In California

In one of the most heinous examples of how lenient progressives are with sex criminals, a new California law--SB 1414--puts the minimum incarceration at a shockingly low two days, and a wildly low maximum of one year, plus a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Offenders are placed in county jail, not a prison. To repeat: by California law--not a bill, a law--persons who are arrested for soliciting children for sex can receive two days in jail and a fine. Even the maximum of a year in jail and the highest allowable $10,000 fine is preposterously low.

    Where Criminals Age Like Wine

Under California's liberal Elderly Parole Program, criminals who are over 50 and have served 20 continuous years behind bars are referred to the parole board. Illustrating the ridiculous nature of the program is Charles William Mix, who abducted and molested his friend's daughter in 2003.

Mix was given a 350-year sentence after taking the girl across state lines. He was captured in Utah. Twenty years have passed since his incarceration, so now, in California, he's eligible for parole.

"Homes For Illegals" Is A Weird Cali Flex

Home ownership is a more expensive goal than ever. When we think of groups who should receive a leg up in the process of buying a house, do criminals come to mind? How about noncitizen criminals such as illegal immigrants?

California Democrats have introduced a bill that would expand a down payment boost program to include illegals, as reported in the New York Post:

"California Democrats are set to push a bill through the state senate this week to help immigrants who entered the US illegally secure first-time home-buying loans. The bill introduced by Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) would grant some undocumented immigrants eligibility to apply to the state’s Dream for All home loan program that awards first-time home buyers up to 20% in down payment assistance of no more than $150,000 through a lottery system. The program is currently available to low- and middle-income first-time home buyers in California and Arambula’s bill aims to open it up to tax-paying, undocumented immigrants."

For all of New York's warts, I'll take it every day over that hot mess. California was once known jokingly as the land of fruits and nuts. Now it's a paradise for woke perverts and illegals.
