The first sentence begins with Patrick Henry's quote "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?" This book is an awesome collection of Gen. George Washington's letters and papers. He kept no actual diary during the Revolutionary War, but one certainly gets the exact situation from his letters and papers. The world never changes but is repeating itself today!
Did you know that only 30% of the population at that time wanted freedom from Great Britain? Many if not most of Washington's problems recruiting. supplies, and amuunition were major issues because Congress wouldn't act. From the very beginning, the winning of this war was surely very bleak. However, being a very wise and Christian general, George Washington put all of it in God's hands! His faith journey is very prevalent in his private papers and letters. God wanted this war to be won to create America.
This is a very easy read. You can pick it up and put it down. The writings of General George Washington cause much reflection especially as his thoughts relate to America today.
All of us need to be on our knees with George Washington! 'Liberty or Death!'
