With the nation's nerves still frayed by the bizarre Baltimore bridge collapse, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was nearly involved in a similar incident last night. Two weeks ago, millions watched video of the cargo ship Dali crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Today, the Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service New York reported that at 8:30pm on Saturday, the cargo ship Qingdao lost power on the Kill Van Kull waterway. The incident occurred uncomfortably close to the Verrazzano, the second longest suspension bridge in the world.

Three tug boats accompanied the giant ship, but it took another three tugs to bring the Qingdao under control. The incident is especially concerning given that engineers have claimed that the Verrazzano is susceptible to the same kind of complete collapse suffered by the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Further, the cargo ship that collided with the Francis Scott Key also mysteriously lost power before its fateful collision.

The Manhattan reported on the Verrazzano Bridge just four days ago in light of the Metropolitan Transit Authority's ridiculous demand that the New York Road Runners pay $750,000 to close the bridge for the New York Marathon. In a rare display of sanity, Gov. Kathy Hochul intervened, and the MTA backed down.

The Manhattan is a new media outlet combatting the Leftist narrative in NYC. We love The Big Apple, we want it to succeed and prosper and are committed to revealing how flawed ‘progressive’ policy is ruinous. As crime spikes, the homeless crisis balloons, schools continue to degrade, and quality of life plummets, we’re determined to help effectuate change. The Manhattan will fearlessly chronicle the problems and try to offer solutions. We won’t shy away from issues, we will lean into them.
