The story isn't adding up. Embattled US Secret Service head Kim Cheatle has come under fresh fire over her comments in an ABC interview today. Cheatle claimed the reason an agent wasn't stationed on top of the building Thomas Crooks chose as a platform to shoot Donald Trump...was due to the slope of the roof.
"That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point," Cheatle claimed. "And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof."
Cheatle's claim is false on its face. The building, typical of multi-purpose metal-siding structures, has a roof sloped just enough for rain runoff. Furthermore, as demonstrated in the tweet below, the roof the USSS actually posted snipers on was more sloped than the would-be assassin's building.
Cheatle went on to embarrass herself further by accepting responsibility for the incident, yet refusing to step down. "The buck stops with me. It was unacceptable. And it's something that shouldn't happen again."
Shouldn't? That's putting it mildly.
As the New York Post reported yesterday, Cheatle was installed as the head of the USSS at the behest of Jill Biden, PhD.
Cheatle and Mrs. Biden became friendly when Cheatle was assigned to Secret Service detail for the Bidens during the eight years of Joe's vice presidency. She also became close to power-whisperer Anthony Bernal, Jill's closest adviser (seen in the tan sport coat in the tweet below).
What's more, Bernal is a DEI booster. As the Post reports:
"Cheatle, 53...secured the non-Senate-confirmed role in August 2022 after a three-year stint as senior director of global security at PepsiCo. Before that, she had served 27 years in the Secret Service...Four sources close to President Biden’s family...said she was well liked by the future first lady and her most senior aides, including top adviser Anthony Bernal...'Cheatle served on Dr. Biden’s second lady detail and Anthony pushed for her,' a Democratic insider told The Post. 'Anthony has no national security or law enforcement experience. He should have no influence over the selection of the USSS director.'...'Anthony is obsessed with being DEI-compliant,' a third source told The Post, using the acronym for diversity, equity and inclusion — the human resources practice of attempting to ensure diversity in the workforce."
When people say, Who's really running things? It isn't Joe, the answer appears to be, at least in part, the First Lady, and figures like Bernal. An unforgivable lapse of security occurred on Cheatle's watch after she was placed in charge of an unaccountable, powerful branch of government by Jill Biden. That the USSS is responsible for the security of both the president and his political opponents should give Americans a lengthy pause, given the many lawsuits brought against Trump by the Biden administration.
Moreover, Cheatle's plainly false and contradictory statements regarding the assassination attempt only underscore her lack of fitness for the role of USSS head.
By any common sense standard, Cheatle must resign.
