While year-over-year inflation has slowed to 2.9%, inflation rates vary by city. As Adam McCann of WalletHub writes, the difference from one metro area to another can be quite pronounced. Surprising no one who lives here, New York has it the worst of all major American cities.
The study looked at 23 metro areas:
"WalletHub compared 23 major MSAs (Metropolitan Statistical Areas) across two key metrics related to the Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation. We compared the Consumer Price Index for the latest month for which BLS data is available to two months prior and one year prior to get a snapshot of how inflation has changed in the short and long term."
Here are the top ten cities for inflation:
With a change of 4.1% versus one year ago, New York is in worse shape thatn any city except Honolulu at 4.5%. Yet New York also has an ugly trend of .9% in the past two months, whereas Honolulu is flat for that same period.
