Representing Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, Councilwoman Crystal Hudson has proposed legislation that would offer "gender-affirming care" for trans detainees. Translated: she wants taxpayers to foot the bill for wigs, chest binders, and prosthetics for trans detainees in the New York City jail system.
But that's not all. Hudson's woke proposal extends the offer of prosthetic penises and breasts to guards and other employees in the NYC penal industry.
Hudson's bill is yet another example of the slings and arrows of the leftist agenda. Any insulting idea to rend the fabric of society and demoralize upstanding, traditional Christian families will at least be floated in the public arena.
Does Hudson truly care if gender dysphoric criminals get fake penises to stuff in their county-issue orange pants? Doubtful. But such a ridiculous bill circumnavigates the real issue: there are more and more trans people in prison because they are hormonally imbalanced and mentally unwell.
Trans crime is a real problem. A biological male trans person is 58% more likely to commit murder than to be murdered. Strapping on plastic breasts isn't a cure, but it does create the appearance of addressing the underlying problem. And that's good enough for Dems.
Hudson is trying to make a name for herself in liberal New York politics. She is using trans issues to virtue signal up the food chain to kingmakers like Gov. Kathy Hochul and Sen. Chuck Schumer. In the meantime, her constituents have accused Hudson of not taking care of business in her district.
This is a theme among Democrats. Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco, Kamala Harris' Oakland, Barack Obama's Chicago. Fixing the crime isn't on the agenda, that would be "cis-normative" and pro-patriarchy or some other bit of nonsensical nu-Marxist jargon.
What are the consequences for such politicians? Zero. They know that as long as welfare and entitlement programs are in place, the voters in impoverished communities will stay blue, despite multigenerational impotence on crime (Hudson even fought for illegal aliens, seeking unlimited stays in shelters).
Don't blame Crystal Hudson, she's just following the well-worn script. Tuck-friendly undies, anyone?
