Sandcastles fall into the sea, eventually. Mayor Eric Adams is learning the metaphorical wisdom of those Jimi Hendrix lyrics in real time as his hastily-built, corrupt DEI empire crumbles around him. The weight of malfeasance is more than its walls could bear.

NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban submitted a letter of resignation late this morning. A series of raids by federal police on September 4th were the catalyst for Caban to sep down. He stands accused of widespread corruption and influence peddling, possibly related to NYC nightclubs, favorite haunts of Adams, the self-proclaimed "Nightlife Mayor".
Like Adams, Caban started as an NYPD officer. His career began in 1991, roughly five years after Adams joined New York's Finest.
In Caban's stead, Adams appointed Bronx native Tom Donlon, whose resumé is truly formidable. Donlon has experience in the FBI, and as a federal counterterrorism agent. He has served as director of the Office of Homeland Security, the NYPD/FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the FBI's National Threat Assessment Center.
Donlon also boasts corporate bona fides. He was the global head of security for both BlackRock and Credit Suisse.
Some of his most prominent cases include the terror attacks on the USS Cole, the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, and attacks on US embassies in Africa.
Much like Adams' recent FDNY chief switcheroo, it appears that a DEI hire who failed is being replaced with a competent individual who probably should have had the job in the first place.
