If Mayor Adams' administration were a passenger jet, the oxygen masks would be dropping from the ceiling right about now. Adams was indicted today in a federal probe headed by the Southern District of New York.
Adams is the first sitting NYC mayor to suffer such an inglorious fate.
Insiders allege that the underlying cause is a bribe from Turkish officials in order to expedite paperwork for the Turkish consulate in Manhattan. Not great, but hardly world-shaking stuff. It looks as though Adams crossed the wrong Democrat. Some have suggested it was his stance on the southern border.
Adams is expected to surrender to authorities early next week, and the indictment will be unsealed tomorrow.
Of course, Adams' administration has been under attacks from all sides for months now, this is perhaps the inevitable conclusion to what appears to be either a deeply corrupt mayoralty, or a weaponized Attorney General office...after all, we know from Donald Trump's experience in New York that Letitia James is prone to vendettas--or both.
Even FBI heavy Tom Donlon had his home raided by feds days after accepting the job as top cop at the NYPD.
For his part, Adams proclaimed his innocence in a statement just before the indictment was announced. "I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit."
