A bad week for the Kamala Harris campaign just got worse.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, sometime ardent supporter of women's rights, has been accused by three sources of hitting his then-girlfriend in 2012 with an open hand after a night of drinking. The couple were attending the Cannes Film Festival at the time.
Emhoff's date was busy bribing a valet to let them skip the long taxi line when she allegedly put her hand on the valet's shoulder. That move was too flirty for Emhoff's tastes, so he slapped the woman so hard "that she spun around."
Emhoff's behavior is detrimental to his wife's campaign on several levels. Firstly, Harris has been a vocal supporter of TimesUp, a non-profit that raised money to support victims of sexual harassment in the wake of Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuse case. TimesUp ceased operations in 2023.
Further, Harris was one of the loudest voices in the room during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's hearings. Harris claimed to believe Christine Blasey Ford despite a lack of evidence and a flimsy, inconsistent story.
Emhoff has repeatedly tried to clean up his public image after impregnating his nanny in 2009, which resulted in his divorce from his first wife. To do so, he has spoken out about "toxic masculinity" on news shows.
"You've got this trope out there that you've gotta be tough, and you know, angry, and lash out to be strong--it's just the opposite...every time I can speak against this toxicity...I'm gonna continue to use this platform every time I get to speak out against this toxic masculinity that's out there."
The allegation comes on the heels of wife Kamala Harris' revelation that she was suffering from insomnia when she decided to choose Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate. She claimed the sleep deprivation was a result of Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race. So Harris got out of bed and decided to cook to help her think clearly about the decision.
The dish she prepared? Pork tenderloin. Which is odd, given that Emhoff is Jewish.
Additionally, the news about Emhoff's violent outburst comes at a bad time for the campaign given vice presidential candidate Walz, who performed poorly in last night's debate against JD Vance. The New York Post reported today that Walz warned Harris that he isn't a good debater during the vetting process.
Harris decided to go with Walz anyway, despite his criminal record, lying about his criminal record, lying about his retirement rank, dodging deployment, and authorizing Minnesota officers to fire paintballs at citizens on their own property during Covid lockdown.
To round out the week of bad news, Harris has been slammed in the press for skipping hurricane preparedness briefings that were a focus of Harris' predecessor, Mike Pence, and for her administration's slow response to Hurricane Helene.
