President-elect Donald Trump has named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head a new governmental department aimed at reducing the size and inefficiency of the federal government.

The Department of Government Efficiency, or "DoGE", is a humorous play on Musk's favorite cryptocurrency, Dogecoin. The meme coin has surged in price since the election, more than doubling in value.

In the Trump-Vance transition team announcement today, Trump set an ambitious goal for DoGE: to complete their work by July 4, 2026, roughly a year and a half after his second term begins.

The date was selected due to its historical significance: the 250th anniversary of American independence. Trump has been looking forward to the milestone moment, and planning events to celebrate American greatness in a "World Fair" style fashion.

A White House task force called "Salute to America 250" will convene after Trump takes office to create the "Great American State Fair," a year-long exhibition that will feature exhibits from every state in the country. The Iowa State Fairgrounds will serve as host, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds reported last week.

The announcement of the waste-cutting department, now headed by two bold and visionary men, is sure to send shockwaves through "the blob", or the "deep state", or whatever term one chooses to describe our bloated American bureaucracy.
