President Donald Trump's legal team filed an appeal with a New York appeals court yesterday. The president is seeking to overturn the 34 felony convictions for falsifying business documents in the "hush money" case from 2024.
Sullivan & Cromwell LLP have replaced Trump's attorneys Emil Bove and Todd Blanche, who have been given roles in Trump's Justice Department.

The case, controversially presided over by Judge Juan Merchan, has been derided many on the right and left as having no legal merit. Former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo shared his thoughts on Real Time With Bill Maher in June of last year:
“If his name was not Donald Trump and if he wasn’t running for president…I’m the former AG of in New York, I’m telling you that case would’ve never been brought...That’s what is offensive to people, and it should be because if there’s anything left, it’s belief in the justice system.”
As reported by ZeroHedge, “The misuse of the criminal law by the Manhattan DA to target President Trump sets a dangerous precedent, and we look forward to the case being dismissed on appeal,” Robert Giuffra, co-chair of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and the lead attorney representing the president in the matter, said in a statement.
He said the appeal is a step toward protecting New York’s “reputation as a global business, financial, and legal center.”
As an American citizen, he has every right to appeal—all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary.https://t.co/qbdCNuDCib

Merchan sentenced Trump a mere ten days before the president's second inauguration, a move that many saw as vindictive. Trump was granted an unconditional discharge, meaning that his sentence is more symbolic than punitive, in that it carries no fine, prison time, or probation.
Judge Juan M. Merchan sentenced Trump on Jan. 10, with no fines, jail time, or probation ordered as part of a so-called “unconditional discharge.”
“This has been a weaponization of government,” Trump said. “They call it lawfare.”
