Would You Hire Him To Babysit? Common Sense Would Have Prevented Repeated Rape Of 7 Year Old Boy

Common sense. A prized quality, it is the ability to discern the best course of action in a given set of circumstances. Are dark clouds gathering outside? Best to take an umbrella. Scheduling a dinner party in February? Make sure it doesn't coincide with the Super Bowl. Looking for a fun few days of shopping in Midtown NYC? Make sure the UN isn't in session.

Might we add to to that list: need a babysitter? Don't hire a 23 year-old man. And certainly don't hire a 23 year-old man with a feral glint in his eyes who spends an inordinate amount of time with children.

Ramel "Menah" Warner of Brooklyn was arrested for repeatedly raping a seven year-old boy for whom he was babysitting. He took videos of the criminal acts and uploaded them to a site on the dark web. Warner was identifiable in the videos due to his tattoos. Authorities fear that there may be multiple victims.

As reported by the New York Post, "The victim told his mother about the alleged abuse in November 2022. At that time, Warner was arrested by the NYPD and charged in an 11-count indictment soon after — a still pending criminal case. 'Not only did the defendant have access to children before his arrest, but even after his arrest for raping a child, he continued to participate in a children’s dance group that met at a middle school,' authorities said in the indictment. 'The defendant’s relentless efforts to associate with children even after his arrest for a serious crime against a child show that he cannot be trusted to stay away from children if released.'"

The Eastern District of New York report on the case provides more detail:

The defendant recorded six videos of his sexual abuse of the child, one of which was over four minutes long.  The videos the defendant created depict him anally penetrating the child and performing oral sex on him.  Those videos were subsequently distributed on the dark web. The government believes the defendant has worked at afterschool programs in Brooklyn public schools, including a dance group for minor children operating out of a Brooklyn middle school.

Multiple Failures Of Common Sense

There are several reasons we associate babysitters with women and teenage girls. First, children tend to prefer a female sitter. We associate women with gentleness and nurturing behaviors. Women commit less crime than men, especially young men.

Crime statistics tell a straightforward story: the most violent group of people in the country are young, black men. Joe Biden knew it. Hillary Clinton called them "super predators".

The parents of the rape victim, the seven year-old boy, were the first line of defense. Warner had been living in their home for two years. The parents left him in charge of their child. Surely they were aware of Warner's unusual interest in children, given that he spent much of his time seeking their company through various after-school programs.

The victim's parents failed the common sense test. So did authorities who, after Warner's rape arrest, failed to prohibit his interactions with other children. The judge failed to keep a child rapist in custody.

Time For Change

President Donald Trump was elected while repeating a mantra of Common Sense. In the clip below, Trump uses the example of biological men competing in women's sports. This phenomenon, unimaginable ten or twenty years ago, is defended angrily today by a small but vocal group of Americans.

The problem with common sense is that it relies on what we know to be true versus what polite society asks us to believe. Boys in girls' sports is wrong, of course. But by all means, let's not call out the deluded young man on hormonal supplements for fear of upsetting him.

Go to a large database care provider website like care.com or urbansitter.com. See if you can find any black men in their early twenties in your area who want to sit for young children. Pro tip: you won't find many, and most likely, none at all.

Several people failed the common sense test when it came to Ramel "Menah" Warner. First and foremost, the parents of the victim. Second, the individuals at after-school programs who allowed Warner to work with children, and finally, those in the Brooklyn penal system who let a repeat child rapist back into the community.

As for Warner, one imagines that his time behind bars will be quite uncomfortable. It's common sense.
