Albany, New York - Avelo Airlines, known for offering travelers more options from smaller airports to larger hubs, was confronted Sunday, November 30, 2025 by a group of protestors demanding that Albany International Airport halt its contract with the company. The complaint: that the airline puts “profit over human dignity.” The protest was sponsored by a group called “Indivisible Albany” which is opposed to ICE flights of detained individuals from Albany County on Avelo airplanes.

Avelo Airlines is otherwise known for customer-friendly travel fares, comfortable seating, and family friendly policies for its pilots and crews as most flights are day flights. Pilots are on record with their accolades for the “human dignity” the company shows in allowing them to be home with their families after a day servicing travelers of all stripes.

Marianna Achlaoug, a representative of “Indivisible” insisted that the protest was "Because of its association with ICE and the fact they are choosing bottom line over human dignity, we want them out of Albany County.’’

“Human dignity” ostensibly means for “Indivisible” the lack of enforcement of immigration law as pertains to unauthorized foreign nationals on U.S. soil. One assumes that ALL passengers on Avelo are treated with dignity as part of the overall travel experience, regardless of the nature of their travel.

This latest protest event at Albany International Airport is not a unique event. In July 2025 the Free Speech Project of Georgetown University reported on a similar gathering at the Albany, New York airport. It quoted Achlaoug as stating, “We’re demanding that Avelo stop using taxpayer dollars to fund their own pockets and deport humans to places like El Salvador.” (https://freespeechproject.georgetown.edu/tracker-entries/airlines-deportation-deal-with-ice-sparks-protests-and-boycott-campaign-leading-to-first-amendment-battle/)

Achlaoug either fails to realize that a contract paying for a service is a legitimate business contract. As a co-sponsor of “Indivisible” she would know that one pays for protest signs, business managers, and a host of other invoiced matters. “Fund their own pockets” is surely a pejorative acknowledgement that people and companies are remunerated for services rendered. “Deporting humans” is verbose as “deport” implies that: one does not “deport” anyone with a legal right, such as citizenship, to be in the United States. “Places like El Salvador” could be construed to be a determination that the nation of “El Salvador” is unworthy of receiving its own nationals who were present in this country without authorization.
