Donald Trump has been indicted by a vote of a Manhattan grand jury in an unprecedented historical moment.
The former president’s indictment has been filed under seal and the specific charges are not publicly known at this time. Trump’s lawyers have been notified.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is expected to reach out to Trump’s attorneys to logistically arrange his surrender to face his arraignment.
The DA’s office has been investigating Trump in connection with his alleged role in a $130,000 hush money payment and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels and Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen that dates back to the 2016 presidential election.
This is uncharted waters indicting a former president who has also announced his candidacy for the 2024 campaign.
In the past, Trump has vowed to keep running in the face of any criminal charges.There are two other criminal probes and it is not known if the indictment is only related to the Stormy Daniels payment.
New York law requires potential defendants to be notified and invited to appear before a grand jury. Trump declined to appear before the grand jury.
