• Thune And Cornyn Are Repackaged Romneys Seeking To Become The New Mitch McConnell

Senators John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX) are making headlines across legacy media this morning. While each campaigns to become the Senate Majority Leader, replacing Mitch McConnell, clips have begun to surface of their often contentious pasts with President Donald Trump during his first term, and during lead-up to the 2024 election.

    Singing A New Thune

First, Thune, 63. The American people deserve a Senate majority leader who would follow the decisive mandate set forth on November 5th, and his attitude concerning Trump is a longstanding bad look. His past comments fall to the level of petty politicking, sound bites backed up by wishy-washy qualifiers.

Thune claimed in 2021 that Trump "for so long, uh, continued to, um, try and convince people in this country that the election was stolen from him was a disservice to people, and it got people to believe something that wasn't true."

Offering opinions is a fundamental act for politicians. And yes, they often change their minds and allegiances. When it comes to Thune, however, his messaging on Trump has been consistent (until very recently, of course). When asked in December of 2022 if he would support Trump, Thune coyly replied, "I'm hoping we have other options."

    Cornyn Flaky

Cornyn, 72, is no better. The Texan has maintained his seat since 2002, so he's quite comfortable. He has also been comfortable in his repudiation of Trump.

Cornyn took the unusual tack earlier this year of claiming Trump's "time has passed him by," and that Trump doesn't understand that in a general election, "you have to appeal to voters beyond your base."

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/14/us/politics/gop-covid-vaccine.htmlBut that's the tip of the RINO iceberg for Cornyn. He has expressed anti-2nd Amendment opinions, pushed the Covid "vaccines," is a massive Ukraine booster, and chillingly, called for "maximum punishment" for J6 protesters, many of whom were held in solitary confinement for months at a time for nonviolent offenses.

Lastly, a correction: The Manhattan reported last week that during Trump's first term, Cornyn and Thune's voting records aligned more closely than Scott's did by a few percentage points. While that is true, the more effective measure is reflected in the tweet below: Scott is a very reliably conservative voter with a 95% rating from the Heritage Foundation.

Thune comes in at a paltry 62%, Cornyn at 64%.
