Earlier this month, Fox 5 (New York) reported on police officers that saved an 8-year-old boy who fell though the ice on a pond on Long Island. The incident occurred in East Patchogue in Suffolk County.
The boy reunited with them days later, so that he could thank them.
"The rescuing was anything but easy and the ice kept breaking," reported Fox 5 reporter Jodi Goldberg. "The boy was getting tired."
That's when a police officer decided to just go get him.
"I crawled out on the ice, grabbed him, and I started making my way to shore," said Highway Sgt. Michael Santillo.
"All three of these officers fell through the ice," said Suffolk County Executive, Edward P. Romaine. "They were all soaked. But they knew what their mission was."
