Globalist forces are beginning to get the vapors over the possibility that AI might get out of their control and into the hands of ordinary Americans, and so they are rushing to lock down the technology before it is too late.
The New York Times reports that former President Barack Obama, who is raising money for the Democrats, is pushing the party to make AI regulation a priority issue. In a series of private meetings with top House and Senate Democrats as well as a number of the party's leading 2028 presidential hopefuls, the former President described the rapid development of AI as "dangerous" and said that if Congress were to return to Democratic control, he would urge House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries to develop a comprehensive framework for regulating the technology.
In other words, the very same people who brought Americans a surveillance state, social media censorship, and Big Tech monopolies are now attempting to write the rules for the most powerful information technology in human history.
Obama outlined several concerns about AI, among them safety risks, harm to children, and job displacement. At the same time he credited AI with enormous potential, especially in medicine and energy. He positioned himself somewhere between "accelerationist" and "doomer."
The timing of these demands for AI control is nothing short of opportune — coming precisely as the technology becomes increasingly available to independent journalists, political organizers, small business owners, and ordinary citizens who would otherwise have no way to compete with the information power wielded by established media and government agencies.
The globalist class built its narrative control through the press, academia, the regulatory apparatus, and social media. AI threatens to upend all of it. One small outlet can now compete with a legacy newsroom. One researcher can now match the analytical power of an entire government agency. One individual can now organize, communicate, and publish without the approval of Silicon Valley gatekeepers.
So what is really scaring Obama and the rest of the Democratic establishment? Not the technology. The people who will use it.
This is exactly how Facebook and Twitter were treated by the left. Once celebrated as tools of liberation — the Arab Spring was organized via Facebook notes with State Department backing — they became targets for censorship the moment they helped elect Donald Trump in 2016. Within months the same voices cheering the platforms were demanding content moderation, algorithmic suppression, and eventually outright silencing of conservative voices. The playbook is identical: celebrate the technology when you control it, regulate it the moment you don't.
David Sacks, the former White House AI czar under President Trump, already called out the cartel play by OpenAI and Anthropic — AI "safety" standards designed to entrench the incumbent players and burden competitors who haven't yet reached the frontier. Obama's intervention adds the political muscle: use government power to ensure the institutions that already control information flows retain that control in the AI era.
Watch closely who is pushing AI regulation, what they want regulated, and why. Their goal is not your safety. Their goal is power.
