The signal is that New York City Democrats have blown through billions of dollars of taxpayer’s money for mental health initiatives without ameliorating the problem. The noise is that 30 year young Jordan Neely, who amassed over 40 convictions and had “known mental health issues” was killed, because he is black, at the hands of a 24 year young white marine.
What we are seeing is that ever since BLM, race baiters, many of which are Democrat elected officials, look to subvert the rule of law and dictate punishment, muddying the legal process.
Here’s the picture of Wednesday, May 3rd in the Big Apple. New York City Democrat council members, dressed like unmade beds, danced and screeched during their staged takeover to disrupt a discussion on rent. In a video that has gone viral, council members Sandy Nurse, Shanahan Hanif, Lincoln Restler, Tiffany Caban, and Chi Osse showed utter disdain for their constituents and the office they serve amidst their orchestrated insurrection.
The optics were so bad, Nurse leveled a stunning indictment on her community. She tweeted, “There are some who think we must have decorum even while people across this city are losing everything. But those people didn’t elect me. My community sent me to fight for them exactly as the person I am and always have been.” Translation, Nurse admits to being void of “decorum” and posits her “community” deserves a clown.
Tiffany Caban tweeted, “We surrounded the Rent Guidelines Board. It’s a hearing, right? I bet they hear us now.”
On the same day as their insurrection of the Rent Guidelines Board, a criminal with an extensive rap sheet and mental health issues entered a subway cart. As per freelance journalist Juan Alberto Vazquez, Neely “started screaming in an aggressive manner [and] said…he… doesn’t care if he goes to jail.”
Tragic, desperate, and terrifying on all counts. There’s only one party to blame, the party in charge - the Democrats. Via their policies - defunding police, emptying jails, “shelter dumping”, and disallowing NYPD to institutionalize those with mental health issues - no one is safe.
As per a NY Post article, Neely’s aunt, Carolyn, says, “The whole system just failed [Jordan]. He fell through the cracks of the system.” His mother was murdered by Shawn Southerland, who packed her dead body in a valise and at age 18, was called to testify. A so-called family friend of Neely said, “He suffered so much because of what happened to his mother. She was his sole support. His father sure wasn’t.” Jordan faced circumstances that could bring anyone to the brink. “It had a big impact on him. He developed depression and it grew and became more serious. He was schizophrenic, PTSD. Doctors knew his condition and he needed to be treated for that.” Police” said Jordan had been living on the streets and had a recorded history of mental illness.”
With all of this information, the aforementioned Democrat city council members, comptroller Brad Lander, congresswomen AOC and Ayanna Pressley, and senator Jabari Brisport have wasted no time. In an effort to revise facts, influence the legal outcome for the marine, and perhaps incite loot-athons to show “anti-racist” solidarity, they’ve made reckless statements.
Brisport tweeted, “Jordan Neely was lynched. He had no food, no water, no safe place to rest. He had the audacity to publicly yell about that massive injustice, so they killed him.” Pressley tweeted, “ He was 30 years old. Black men deserve to grow old—not be lynched on a Subway because they were having a mental health crisis. Jordan deserved better. Accountability now.” It appears someone had sent a missive to the Democrats to invoke the word “lynching”, which is defined as a hanging, which did not happen. The elected officials are lying.
The Democrat’s claims were so outrageous, even Mayor Adams (whor rarely misses a moment to race-bait) ”ripped” AOC and Lander on CNN Primetime. He said,, “I don’t think that’s very responsible at the time where we are still investigating the situation,” pertaining to the Democrat’s tweets. Adams continued,“Let’s let the DA conduct his investigation with the law enforcement officials. To really interfere with that is not the right thing to do.”
It’s time to revisit the numbers dedicated to mental health. Former New York City Mayor de Blasio’s wife, Chirlaine McCray, spearheaded ThriveNYC. This took and squandered $1 billion dollars of taxpayers’ money to “overhaul the city's mental health and substance abuse services.” Things got worse. Under de Blasio, the homeless population expanded. For the first time ever, mental health 911 calls in New York City were “managed” by health professionals and mental health crisis workers and not police officers.
Governor Hochul’s $220 billion dollar “budget” allocates substantial amounts to mental health. “$27.5 Million to Increase funding for Inpatient psychiatric hospital beds, $9 million for recruiting psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, $12.5 Million annually for 500 additional supportive housing beds to house people experiencing Homelessness, and investments to build on her $10 Billion plan to improve the health care system, including a $577 million increase for Community Mental Health Programs and Services.”
The issue isn’t the money, it’s a confluence of terrible policy outlined above and dereliction of financial and resource management. Neely is just one example, but there are so many others suffering that continue to pose a threat to themselves and others.
As per Bronxworks, “Concerns around street homelessness and public safety in New York City are at an all-time high. The public’s unease is driven primarily by encounters with individuals in public spaces who are in evident psychiatric distress. Two thirds of homeless New Yorkers have some measure of “mental health needs”1 and about 17% have a “severe mental illness.”
In 2022, The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reported 88 deaths on subway-train tracks. AOC, Pressley, Landers, Brisport, and the Democrats on City Council were silent. Their motivations to exploit Neely are race based and will do squat to provide the necessary help to those in New York City suffering from mental illness or victims of those that are plagued.
