An unidentified man tore down and destroyed 160 Pride flags outside of the historic Stonewall Natl. Monument in Greenwich Village.
Online, replies to tweets about the story have been largely supportive of the vandal. "Davidps23NH" quipped, "That's what happens when you force your ideology on people." User "Sistro Mondain" exclaimed, "Freedom of speech!" Others noted the hypocrisy of police ignoring the burning of American flags while pursuing the suspect for destroying Pride flags.
Others pushed back against the nonviolent protest, such as "Chris Kremidas-Courtney," Sr. Advisor at Defend Democracy, who huffed, "It seems the brownshirts are out in force."
